Thunes, a global payment services provider, has expanded its international payment infrastructure into Taiwan enabling real-time financial transactions in both new Taiwan dollars and US dollars.

The move enables more efficient and direct payment processes to major Taiwanese banks for both individual and business accounts.

Given Taiwan’s prominent role in global trade and its economic growth, the expansion by Thunes aims to enhance the operational efficiency and security of cross-border payments, meeting the demands of the region’s financial sector.

The strategic expansion is part of Thunes’ broader efforts to provide advanced payment solutions that ensure high transaction success rates and cost efficiencies globally. Thunes’ Direct Global Network enables real-time payments in over 130 countries and 80 currencies, connecting to over seven billion mobile wallets and 15 billion cards globally.

“Expanding Thunes’ proprietary Direct Global Network with our new payments corridor into Taiwan provides our Members with greater speed, control, visibility, protection and cost efficiencies for real-time cross-border payments in one of Asia’s most vibrant financial markets,” commented Floris de Kort, CEO, Thunes.

She also added: “This expansion underscores our commitment to global reach and industry-leading Quality of Service through direct connections, enabling our Members to seamlessly process payments worldwide, with the highest transaction success rates.”

According to recent data, Taiwan’s total exports amounted to $38.7billion in January 2025, representing a 4.4 per cent increase compared to January 2024.

The Taiwan Institute of Economic Research’s (TIER) forecast for Taiwan’s 2025 gross domestic product (GDP) growth is 3.42 per cent, citing positive factors including increasing investments, solid private consumption and stronger exports. As such, the country’s money influx market continues to grow as Taiwan remains a key trade partner for economies around the world.

Thunes also partners with major companies like Uber and Grab, and maintains a global presence with offices in key cities including Singapore, London and Shanghai.
