Volt and Shopify Launch One-Click PayTo Checkout for Merchants in Australia

Volt, the global real-time payments platform, is expanding its services to the Australian market in partnership with e-commerce giant Shopify.

By teaming up with Shopify, Volt is aiming to enable Australian Shopify merchants to offer local consumers a one-click checkout experience, powered by digital payment solution PayTo.

Volt, which specialises in integrating domestic real-time payment schemes into its global network, has been an approved Shopify partner since 2023, when its Pay by Bank offering became available to Shopify customers in the UK and Europe.

Kristofer Rogers, SVP Australia and New Zealand at Volt

Kristofer Rogers, SVP Australia and New Zealand at Volt, said: “We’re extremely excited to make PayTo available to e-commerce merchants using Shopify in Australia. We’ve combined PayTo’s inherent benefits – namely speed of settlements and low costs – with an almost completely frictionless payments experience. This encapsulates the value Volt brings to Australia’s payments ecosystem, and we look forward to helping merchants and their customers capitalise on it – at scale.”

In Australia, Volt will be first-to-market on Shopify with a one-click checkout built on PayTo, a real-time payment system developed by the country’s New Payments Platform in 2022. Beyond Shopify, Volt is the only real-time payments provider in Australia to offer merchants access to similar domestic networks in over 30 markets, via a single integration.

Volt’s one-click checkout mimics the traditional card-on-file consumer experience, but instead utilises a near-instant payment scheme. Because shoppers set up a payment agreement with merchants during their first purchase, normally by simply entering their Payid, future purchases are automatically pre-authorised. This means shoppers no longer need to approve each payment within their banking app every time they make a payment.
