Samsung Taps Nexxtap to Bring SoftPOS Tap to Phone Tech to Devices for Australian Merchants

Brisbane-based payment innovator Nexxtap has joined forces with Samsung, the consumer electronics giant, to integrate its SoftPOS Tap to Phone technology with Samsung Rugged tablets.

Through the collaboration, device hardware from Samsung will utilise the secure payment software from Nexxtap, enabling businesses to accept payments using nothing but their phone or tablet.

The move aims to transform the payment experience on Samsung Rugged tablets, by deploying Nexxtap’s SoftPOS Tap to Phone technology to embed tap-to-pay functionality, removing the need for legacy terminals or dongles.

Unlike traditional payment solutions that rely on legacy terminals or external devices, Nexxtap’s SoftPOS solution transforms any Android 11+ NFC-enabled device into a powerful payment processor. Built under strict PCI compliance guidelines, Nexxtap delivers stringent security capabilities alongside portability.

The rollout is centred around the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro, a Rugged device boasting NFC capabilities, robust performance, and durable design, making it ideal for businesses regardless of where they want to accept payments.

    Catering to different merchant types

One merchant that is already leveraging the technology is Bluestone Espresso Bar. Nexxtap revealed that it developed a custom Kitchen Display System (KDS) that integrates directly into the kitchen’s operations. When a customer taps to pay, the order is instantly pushed through to the kitchen.

It says that this tap-to-ticket experience ensures that payment and order transmission happen in parallel, within seconds. This live integration also enabled staff to focus on quality service, reduced the risk of errors, and boosted operational efficiency whilst strengthening its relationship with the major telco through a more convenient ordering experience.

Looking to the future, Nexxtap and Samsung say they are exploring new use cases to bring innovation to more industries, together. This includes:

    • Tradies and mobile workers
    • Pop-up stores and markets
    • Enterprise field teams
    • Cafés and QSR chains
    • Retail and logistics
    • Event and venue operators

As the collaboration evolves, Nexxtap also plans to continue to develop solutions that simplify payments, reduce operational friction, and help Australian businesses move faster in a changing landscape.
