A Touch More Orange: Saylor Indicates New Strategy for Purchasing Bitcoin

    Key Takeaways

    • Saylor’s “more orange” message points toward another bitcoin purchase.

    • Strategy currently holds 845,050 BTC acquired for $63.73 billion.

    • The company’s next regulatory disclosure will confirm any transaction.

Saylor Drops Another Bitcoin Purchase Signal

Another large corporate bitcoin purchase could be approaching after Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR) Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted the company’s acquisition chart Sunday. Saylor shared the message on X on Sept. 20, writing only, “A little more orange,” as investors awaited the bitcoin treasury company’s next transaction disclosure.

The orange circles on the chart represent Strategy’s BTC purchases, making Saylor’s wording a recognizable signal rather than confirmation that a transaction has occurred. The image showed 845,050 BTC valued at approximately $67.90 billion, an average acquisition cost of $75,412 per coin, and an unrealized gain of roughly $3.95 billion.

Saylor used comparable language before Strategy’s latest confirmed acquisition, when his “We’re Back” message preceded the disclosure of a 4,603 BTC purchase. The company spent approximately $369.7 million on bitcoin between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30, paying an average of $80,318 per coin and lifting its holdings to the current total.

Strategy Holds 845,050 BTC After Two Quiet Weeks

Strategy entered the new reporting period without changing its BTC balance for two consecutive weeks. Its Sept. 14 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission reported that the company neither bought nor sold bitcoin from Sept. 8 through Sept. 13, leaving its holdings unchanged at 845,050 BTC.

The same filing placed the aggregate purchase cost at $63.73 billion, including fees and expenses, while confirming an average cost of approximately $75,412 per BTC. Strategy instead used $139.3 million in flexible cash to repurchase STRC preferred shares, continuing a period in which its bitcoin holdings remained stationary as management focused on its capital structure.

Strategy’s live metrics provide investors with continuously updated information on its BTC reserve, purchase history, and performance measures. The company’s official bitcoin dashboard serves as a disclosure channel alongside regulatory filings, but the next filing remains the controlling confirmation of whether Saylor’s latest orange signal corresponds to a completed acquisition.

Cash and Capital Markets Shape the Next Move

Corporate bitcoin treasury companies can finance purchases through operating cash, debt, common-stock issuance, or preferred securities. A bitcoin corporate treasury holds BTC as a reserve asset, exposing shareholders to BTC’s price while adding corporate financing, dilution, dividend, and management risks that do not accompany direct ownership in the same form.

Strategy had $5.10 billion in its U.S. dollar reserve and $1.30 billion in flexible USD Cash as of Sept. 13. The reserve supports preferred-stock dividends and interest payments, while USD Cash may fund bitcoin purchases, securities repurchases, reserve expansion, or other treasury purposes under the company’s capital framework.

Saylor’s latest signal also follows his call for the crypto industry to prioritize product adoption after the Senate’s CLARITY Act setback. His broader strategy beyond CLARITY emphasizes financial products, regulated market access, and digital capital, placing Strategy’s BTC accumulation within a larger push to expand crypto’s role in traditional finance.
