Antom, the merchant payment and digitisation services arm of Ant International, has released an update to its AI agent, Antom Copilot.
The upgrade brings expanded functionalities across areas such as payment integration, merchant onboarding, risk settings, and chargeback response.
Originally launched in June 2024, Antom Copilot is described as the first AI agent dedicated to merchant payment services.
It is built on Alipay+ GenAI Cockpit, Ant International’s AI-as-a-Service platform that supports the development of AI-based financial services by fintech firms and super apps.
One of the key additions is the Chargeback AI Assistant, aimed at addressing issues in dispute resolution and revenue recovery, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses.
Antom noted that nearly half of its SME clients do not actively respond to chargebacks.
The new tool provides a case-specific approach by generating tailored defence strategies, assisting with documentation, and offering analysis both before and after disputes.
According to pilot testing, this resulted in a three percentage point increase in win rates and a 46% reduction in the time taken for dispute resolution.
All chargeback processes currently include merchant review and manual checks, although full automation is planned in future versions.
Other improvements include the ability to recommend payment methods and integration solutions automatically, based on Antom Copilot’s assessment of merchant requirements, market trends, and regional needs.
This is intended to speed up the deployment of localised payment systems with reduced technical input from merchants.

The onboarding process has also been upgraded. Using multimodal large language model capabilities, Antom Copilot can now extract and process merchant registration documents.
Merchants can also use natural language prompts to configure risk management settings, aimed at improving access to anti-fraud tools.
The AI agent now supports faster system integration, reportedly by over 90%, through features such as chain-of-thought reasoning, automated procedures, and both language and graphical interfaces.
An average satisfaction rate of 90% was recorded for full-cycle issue resolution.
In the first half of 2025, over half of merchants using Antom’s platform interacted with the embedded AI agent.
The most frequent queries related to payment method availability, currency support, sector-specific solutions, and recommended technologies for integration.

“We’re building AI tools that go beyond payment acquiring to address real operational needs for merchants,”
said Gary Liu, General Manager of Antom at Ant International.
“With this latest upgrade, Antom Copilot continues to evolve into a payment partner to provide merchants with tailored solutions. This reflects Ant International’s AI strategy to deliver trusted, industry-specific solutions that help businesses, especially SMEs, fully harness the benefits of technology to thrive.”
