Simple Refuel, Simple Payments: HiQi and Ecommpay Partner to Improve Fuel Payments in Portugal

For an industry reliant on trucks, cars and travel, the payment experience when fuelling must be efficient and effective. To improve the reliability of its service, Portuguese fuel payment app, HiQi, has partnered with Ecommpay, the global payments platform.

As a result of the new partnership, business drivers will be able to top up their credit account quickly and simply via their preferred payment method, then pay to refuel without the need for physical cash or queues in a petrol station. The service extends beyond business, too, with HiQi also catering to private drivers looking to improve their experiences.

The HiQi app provides drivers with the best possible price, through exclusive app-only discounts. Crucially, HiQi is now able to meet the EU instant payments requirement, with secure and compliant payments through its partnership with Ecommpay.

Salvador Lourenço, IT manager at HiQi, commented: “With HiQi, drivers can fill up their private or business vehicles and pay in the quickest, smartest and most convenient way. However, we faced a significant challenge in how customers could top up their pre-pay accounts. We couldn’t offer account-to-account transfers, which is often the most convenient way for people to add credit to their accounts.

“The partnership with Ecommpay has removed that barrier and, since joining forces, we have seen payments through the platform increase rapidly and customer satisfaction soar. The Ecommpay platform has also improved the speed and quality of information provided about payments.”

    Additional benefits

Another critical benefit of the partnership with Ecommpay has been the substantial reduction in false negatives – payments that were returned to the company by open banking – as not having been made, but in reality they had already happened.

This has improved efficiency, reduced manual intervention requirements and boosted customer satisfaction. Just three months into the new partnership, payments through the Ecommpay platform have increased each month from an initial five per cent of total payment volume to more than 20 per cent.

Moshe Winegarten, chief revenue officer, Ecommpay

Moshe Winegarten, chief revenue officer, Ecommpay, added: “Like Ecommpay, HiQi is an innovative company utilising the latest technology to simplify payments. We have worked closely with the HiQi team from day one to ensure we fully understand the business requirements so that we could develop the best possible solution. The result is that payments are much faster enabling HiQi to have the confidence to meet the EU instant payments requirement, with secure and compliant payments.”

“Integration with the Ecommpay platform was quick and straightforward,” continues Salvador Lourenço. “Ecommpay has listened and taken time to truly understand our business and specific requirements. Throughout the process, everyone in the team, without exception, was incredibly available and always had a huge desire to get the project up and running as quickly as possible.”
